We start the journey in 2 weeks

Postby Andrea040805 » Mon Jun 08, 2009 5:54 pm

To begin the process for foster adoption. Art and I have discussed this option for years, and we both agree now is the time to actively pursue it. Our first orientation is the 23rd, and we will begin our paperwork that week to begin our certification. We have our hearts set on another son, and we're praying it happens as smoothly as possible. :D

Oh, wow! how exciting!

I have one cousin who did foster adoption and was able to adopt the sweetest little girl. She has 2 biological sons. I have another cousin who can not have any biological children and did foster adoption and now has 4 children!

I hope you share your experience with us .. this is something I could have seen DH and I doing if we had not had a 4th biological child.

Very exciting! you seem perfect for this option, Andrea!

I also have a friend who added two girls to her family of 4 boys this way. It has been very rewarding for her!

I would love to hear every detail of your journey. 8)

Wow, that is so exciting! I hope you will share details of the journey here.

It is so my heart's desire to adopt, but dh isn't on board....yet. If it is God's plan for us, I know that dh's heart will change so I am not doing anything to pressure him. There is a family in our homeschool gymnastics class that has four foster children right now, in addition to her other two. The foster kids are ages 3, 3, 2 and almost one!! The baby was supposed to have been moved to a new family so she agreed to take the other two and then mom came back into the picture and the baby is staying put with them.

Stephanie, you are so right. If it is God's will, then dh's heart will be changed! Art's was! He's still a little nervous about the whole deal, but not in a negative way. He says that the fact that he knows its a conviction on my heart keeps him motivated to move forward. He just has to remind himself that God wouldnt ask us to do something he cant do!

Orientation is tonight, where I will receive my initial paperwork. If all goes as planned, we'll start placements in 2-3 months, and hopefully we'll have a permanent stay before too long. I'm ready for whatever is given to us though. I'm prepared for the heartbreak of letting babies "go back" and yet looking forward to God's faithfulness. :)

My parents did foster care for many years. They did primarily very "short term" ones - situations where there was someone to take the child, but stuff had to happen first. I can honestly say that most of the children they had (they did primarily infants and toddlers) were not hard to release them because they were incredibly difficult children. Out of the 40+ they had over a three year period there was only ONE that was not abused or born with an addiction. He was adopted and actually still keeps in touch with my parents.

As I recall - at least in SC many moons ago - there were alot of requirements that had to be met to be certified for foster care. My parent's lost their "license" because their fire inspection/approval expired while they were on a 2 month mission trip to Africa and the authorities were going to make them go back through the entire recertification process......

Good luck!
