Can't believe nobody mentioned Spaghetti Bolognaise!!

1 onion (chopped)
1 garlic clove (optional) (you can also use a teaspoon of minced garlic from a jar)
500 g mince
1 can tomatoes
Optional dash of red wine
Some people also add mushrooms, or peas
Some Italian herbs, fresh or dried, are nice

Saute onion & garlic till golden, then add mince and brown. Add can of tomatoes and cook over a low heat for as long as you like - you can cook it for hours (Dh lets it simmer while I am at the gym for up to 2 hours) (you will need to add water most likely to prevent drying out) or you can cook it for 15-20 mins. Cook spaghetti while the meat sauce is cooking, then put spaghetti on plate, a couple of spoonfuls of meat sauce, then some grated cheese. yum! one of the staples round here.

what about shish kefta?

1 # ground beef (maybe 80/20, but not leaner!)
1 T (fine) chopped parsley
1 T minced onion
1/2 tsp pepper
salt to taste

then you press into hotdog shapes and grill it on skewers. (or bake/broil whatever)

you would serve on pita breads with tahina sauce (equal parts tahini, lemon, and water to thin out, with some parsley added in).

alternatively you can cook it in tomato sauce.
