Paying someone to pick up and drop off your kids

Paying someone to pick up and drop off your kids

How much would you offer a teen to come pick up your kids, take them to school and then drop them off at home after school? The teen would have to wake up earlier than normal, would have to go a good 3 miles out of her way to pick up the kids then drive them to school and it would be the same, out of her way, on the way home.

I don't know but probably a lot! Our kids can walk to all three schools so we don't deal with this. Maybe compare it to what you'd pay for a bus pass for them? FWIW, DD makes anywhere from $10-12 per hour for babysitting.

Would you feel safe having a teen drive your kids to/from school? I don't know how California is, but at least in PA and I think in TX, there is a limit to the # of underage (under 18) passengers a junior license (ie under 18) can have in the car.

She doesn't have a provisional license anymore, she has a full license and can drive the boys no problem. I trust her, it's all stop and go driving. The distance is just too far to walk and be at school by 7 am.

I'll ask around. I know several families that have college kids do some level of driving of kids from school to afterschool activities.

I've done that before and have paid 10 dollars an hour, but that's using my car. I think I would also pay for gas, so maybe 15 for an hour of driving.

I ended up offering her 80 a pay day. It is a HUGE favor she is doing for me and takes a huge burden off me. She is also willing to pick them up and drop them off for band practice so those nights I can't do it. She will do it. That is a huge help too.

Sometimes what seems reasonable to pay someone is not just based on the going rate, but how much it is worth to us! I hope this arrangement simplifies your life :-)

I have no clue. I may be in same boat. I really need to work days, but no busing in this school district. Sucks! I'm hoping as Jordan and Jenna's friends get driver's license I can offer them extra gas money (but they would be at the same school, and we will be living like probably 5 mins from the school).
