Holiday fun: Tell me about your elf

Holiday fun: Tell me about your elf

Postby cathie » Tue Dec 11, 2012 10:35 pm

Does anyone do the elf on the shelf? We've done it for several years now and the kids love it (even my 13 y.o. though she pretends she is too cool, lol) We just hide him around the house mostly in tucked away places, but I've seen pictures on Facebook of some really creative ideas, like the elf on a date with barbie hee or him doing activities like making reindeer food etc. I really love the tradition. Yesterday a neighbor boy (6) came rushing over to our house to tell us he'd found their elf in the fridge and he was so excited he could barely speak to tell us... so cute!

So do you have an elf and if so what does he do?

No elves here, but someone I know on facebook is always doing the cutest things - making snow angels, fancy date night dinner (a Barbie was the date), painted a nose on the little girl telling her to look in the mirror (made her Rudolph), living room zip lining, in a sink full of something that looks like baby marshmallows, etc. So cute, but I know I'd run out of things to do.

We don't do it here (my kids were too old to be interested in it when it became popular), but I have a friend who is posting pictures of her elf everyday.

We don't have one and I don't have the energy to keep it up. Besides... I find him kinda creepy.

Frankly I'm quite relieved that this came into vogue long after my kids would be into it. It'd be one more thing to keep up with every night! Heck I was so bad as the tooth fairy, I'd never remember to move the damn elf every night!!

Same here. Bad enough trying to keep up with the annual leprechan antics. LOL.

Whew, so glad I'm not the only one relieved this wasn't during the time my kids grew up. It is adorable, but seems like a lot of work....and, like Esther, I would have forgotten!

We have an elf. Ours just moves to different places each night .. he doesn't do anything too fun, creative or naughty. Carter, age 4 is really excited to see where the Elf ends up each day ... Hunter is somewhat into it. My 2 older boys are obviously not into it and pay no attendion to the Elf.

Personally, I find the pictures people put on FB of their Elves doing silly things highly annoying. I know! Bah humbug, right?!

I wish that had been around when my kids were younger -- I would have loved doing it!

I am amused by others, but glad I didn't have to worry about this!

I am also amused by the naughty elfs. If you want to have some not PG fun, google Elf Shaming.
