of errors, that is. I roasted the turkey today and....somehow....the oven ended up turned off. Needless to say, the turkey took much longer than it should have to cook. Then, while pouring the gravy in a container to freeze, we tipped it over and dumped half of it. So...my mom always had collards with cornmeal dumplings (don't ask, just trust that they're good unless someone like me makes them), anyway my dumplins sorta blew up. Gosh, I hope this is it and there's not more to come!!

Chalk it up to the full moon. It ALWAYS messes me up. Hang in there sweets!

You are reminding me of the time not that long ago that bIL thought it was a brilliant idea to "Slow cook" the turkey at 175 degrees all day.

We had no turkey for turkey day. :P
She believed she could, so she did.

There's a story in my family about my great-grandmother, my maternal grandfather's mom...

She made a pie crust once that came out so hard that it could literally stand up all by itself. My great-grandfather found it so funny that he opened the door and ROLLED it down the driveway (picture a hubcab). From what I understand, she was not amused by this, but several generations later we are still laughing about it.

And I still think of her every time I make pie crust and it doesn't come out right. I can make *almost* anything in the kitchen, but decent pie crust eludes me. I wonder if I inherited this sad shortcoming from her.

Hang in there, Wanda! I say you're in good company. I can cook or bake nearly anything you heart desires, but it took me years to master pancakes, and I doubt I'll ever conquer that darn pie crust dough.

Tammy, your piecrust story reminds me of my struggles with real homemade cornbread. It's taken me 30 years, but NOW I can do it!

OK al, I just thought someone might need a laugh. We're heading out for Pensacola shortly. Park is supposed to have WiFI, so I'll probably be back soon.

Your story brings back 2 Thanksgiving memories. The first was the year our oven died on Thanksgiving day. My mom cut slices of turkey breast and pan fried them (the cooktop still worked). The other is from when we were all in college. We all had brought friends home that couldn't spend the holiday with their families (we were only 45 min or so from school). Someone asked to pass the rolls and my mom took a roll out of the warmer and threw it the length of the table, lol!

These sounds like things I would do.

When ever I cook prime rib I constantly check the oven to make sure it's on or off depending on the time.

Hope things got better. If not - heck it's just one meal of many. :D

Well, we're in Pensacola - made it safely, but things are still wacko. RV parks' internet is down (I'm at Starbucks) and we were almost kicked out because of Roz - no dogs over 10 lbs are allowed evidently and we're 9 times that!

Have a wonderful holiday all!!
