Re: 80's themed party... ideas and feedback!

Wanda, I think your idea is a good one. We need to have food things that my kids like and can eat too.. so I will have to come up with a good menu of regular food, and putting the junk out with that would be fun. Keep the ideas coming! Oh, I am thinking of having my son take videos of the kids, sett...

Re: 80's themed party... ideas and feedback!

And having been one who broke a bone rollerblading... maybe the skating IS a good one to skip! How about Limbo? A scavenger hunt? We will have a park in which to do things. Hmmmm... maybe I can hide things in places throughout, like a Rubik's cube, jelly shoes, a roller skate, things like that. I kn...

Re: 80's themed party... ideas and feedback!

any 80's food ideas? Not sure about that one. I did come up with Pop rocks, Bubble Yum, and Whatchamacalit candy bars... but that is all junk! Well, I am toying with trying to bring rollerskating into the picture... but not sure if it can be done. I dont know if they have traveling people who provid...

80's themed party... ideas and feedback!

This year my kids gave up a big birthday party for car dvd players for our road trips. We did have a pool/sleepover this summer, but skipped over their actual birthdays this year. Next year, they are turning 13... and I have told them we could rent the nearby lodge and do a joint, bigger birthday pa...

When your kids can't sleep

So, now that school is back in session (tomorrow) where I live.. the subject comes up again. What do you allow your kids to do when they cannot sleep on a school night? My kids sometimes have that issue, and since both are on meds for add it can be a real side effect we have to deal with. My dd does...

Re: Not home for dinner...what rules?

Gosh, I really have to add something about our current situation. Our family has been having to eat at different times due to sports activities, but each one has an adult to eat with. To require them to be home and eating at the same time would really add extra stress, so we relax on this issue at t...

Re: Not home for dinner...what rules?

Well, we just had our 24 year old leave last month. But, we still had a deal of him letting us know when he would not be home for dinner. It is common courtesy. I didn't care if it was the day before, or five minutes before, actually. Just to know not to keep dinner waiting was enough for me. But th...

Re: Free School Lunch

I wanted to chime in on the eating in the classroom issue. I have worked in about a dozen school districts as a substitute teacher in many regions across New York state. I think over half of them either only had the breakfast program in classrooms, some due to space issues (such as sharing the cafet...

Re: Anything you hate that everyone else loves?

I just remembered another movie I could NEVER get into! Batman, the Dark Knight.... I tried twice. Once I fell asleep. The second time I got tired of watching and turned it off. Just not my thing. My sister said the same thing, but I know most people LOVED this movie. Go figure! Oh, and Napolean Dyn...

Re: FLUFF: pet names and nicknames

Gail, I think rubbing in crud and dead things is a trait of certain breeds. My husky/shepherd never has. Yet, our cocker mix comes in smelling sooo bad sometimes because of this! I am sure it goes back to the days of hunting, but ITA it is really gross!

Re: Free School Lunch

I would probably let my dd have something like fruit or a yogurt at home, and then eat the breakfast at school, if she really felt like it was important to her to eat with the other kids. My son, however, could eat nothing you mentioned. For those reasons, he would be eating at home. Neither of my k...

Re: Spinoff: What cute or unique things do your pets do?

My dog, Samson, is a talker too, like Molly! You can shake your finger at him and he will automatically respond with a "wuh-wuh awww..... wuh" In a Scooby Doo like style! It is so funny! He also can play volleyball, and if you pitch a beach-type ball at him, he will jump in the air and bat...

Re: Spinoff: What do your kids call YOUR parents

Only Grandma's here. MIL is *Grandma House* and my Mom is *Grandma Pearl*. The Grandma house is a name Alex gave to her when he was a toddler. We kept telling him we were going to Grandma's House over and over. when we got there, he kept calling her Grandma House... and even continued when she came ...

Re: Dinner Inspriations?

I made some homemade chicken salad at lunchtime, so that is what we are having. It was soooo good, with minced red onions, garlic, a ranch/mayo dressing, and grapes. I had it on a wrap with some fresh arugula and it was delish.

Re: Anything You Love That Everyone Else Hates (spinoff)

oh, there are a lot of shows I watch that I get slack for... I Didn't know I was Pregnant is one of them  Also I can say that I LOVE the baby stage, and taking care of a baby is one of my favorite things to do. Most people my age (43) think I am crazy, but give me a baby over a preteen any day!

Re: Anything you hate that everyone else loves?

I disliked PULP FICTION with a passion!! Very disturbing movie, uggh! Also, cannot deal with 30 Rock, Glee, Scrubs and honestly most other sitcoms on tv except for the Office. I simply do NOT get many top 40 songs at all! While my SIL thinks they rock, I shake my head and wonder how. While I ...

Re: FLUFF: pet names and nicknames

Samson, our shepherd/husky is known as:

Sammy
Sammy Sosa

K.C, our cocker mix is often referred to as KC Jones (Grateful Dead reference). Or, KC at bat.

As in "Sammy Sosa and KC at bat"... which is a book from my childhood, Casey at Bat... or something like that, LOL

Re: What do your kids call you?

Funny, since my Grandma was British my Mom called her Mum... and my older siblings call her that too. The younger ones always thought that was funny!

My kids call us Mom and Dad or still Mommy and Daddy, depending on their mood.

Re: Do you still have grandparents?

I never knew either of my Grandfathers. Both Grandmothers, including dh's, have been gone at least 7 years.

Of course, with my Mom turning 83 and my own siblings approaching 60, that is no surprise.
