Re: Do your kids lose things?

DS loses things a lot too... especially jackets and hoodies! My solution when he was the age of your son was to go to Goodwill and buy him a number of them, and not the more pricey ones that would make a difference if he lost them. Any time I saw a jacket or hoodie in great condition I would buy it,...

Re: What can you tell me about Mindcraft?

Alex plays this game, Minecraft, and he says that Yes, it is appropriate for an 11 year old. It is basically a sandbox game, where you build houses and other creations. There is no violence, swearing or anything. He does give a warning to stay on single player, though. With multi-player, you can cha...

Re: Would you take a 12 y.o. to Paris?

Gosh, Cathie... I am sort of on the fence on this one! I see that it might be good for you and dh to get away. But then I think if you might have some down time while dh is doing something work-related, you would have your dd to hang out with. In that case, If there is enough time on your own, I wou...

Re: Is Anyone Presbyterian?

As you might guess, I could say a million things about finding a church home! For the record, the Episcopal Church has female clergy and encourages critical thinking ;-) Give any place a few tries unless it is immediately clear it isn't a good fit. Sundays are not all the same, and you need to see ...

Re: Is Anyone Presbyterian?

HI Hollie! I would consider myself non-denominational, too. I have gone to a Baptist church, United Methodist (a bit too conservative for my taste, but it worked), and now an Episcopalion. Yes, I also spent some time at a Presbyterian church when I lived in Florida for about 8 months. I really felt ...

Re: rules on eating and drinking around house

NO WAY will food be allowed in rooms, ever!

We do allow them to eat snacks in the family room, but they have to be non-messy and in a bowl.

Re: OK, Facebookers - Timeline tips

I just got it a few days ago. I was hold out as long as possible! One thing I did do was to remove my game posts from it. I do NOT need to know how many games of Words with Friends I played... the only thing I really play.

I honestly don't spend much time on my profile, so it is nbd to me. :D

Re: Spinoff Deux: Smartphone=how old?

My two nearly 13 year olds don't have smart phones. Neither do I... I cannot justify the 30 per month per line that would cost us! Only Jory has a smart phone and he pays his portion of the plan on his own. I think once my kids have a way to pay their own fees, I would consider getting one for...

Re: Help us plan... Virginia beach VS Ocean City Maryland

Oh I have heard of Sandbridge, I've heard it's very nice! It IS very nice! It is also very pricey... for what we are looking for. :? The hard thing is that the past two vacations, we have been able to rent a 3 bedroom, 2 bath (sleeps about 8) condo with hot tub, in a beautiful resort for less than ...

Re: Help us plan... Virginia beach VS Ocean City Maryland

Thanks, Rhonda! I know there is also a nice aquarium in Baltimore, which isn't far from OC. Still undecided here, lots of options! Thanks for the input.

Re: Help us plan... Virginia beach VS Ocean City Maryland

Of course, Esther! The Misty of Chincoteague book was one of my all-time faves. I know we are still looking at both places right now. I will keep it in mind that OC may be more of what we are looking for.

Help us plan... Virginia beach VS Ocean City Maryland

Hubby and I are finalizing our vacation plans for this summer. We have decided between Virginia Beach and Ocean City Maryland. We want to be right on the beach. There is a Busch Gardens near VA beach, not sure how far it is from MD, though. Has anyone recently been to either of these places with fam...

Re: Kids and dinner time

Hollie, the main thing in my mind is: Dinner should be an enjoyable time. PERIOD. I do not want to be the one to put too much emphasis on what my kids eat, I do think that a *clean your plate* mentality is more damaging than any good it seems to do. I think we all know this. I feed many different ki...

Re: PreTeens & iMessage (and other texting)

My SIL set this up for my Niece, and she is enjoying texting my kids that way. I see no problem with it, as long as you check the texts from time to time. IMO it is a great way to KIT without the big hassle of a cell phone bill. 8)

Re: Dessert help - gluten AND dairy free

oh, they have a great gluten free pantry brownie mix that is awesome!! If you use Duncan Hines frosting, either the plain chocolate or plain vanilla it should be both dairy and gluten free. There is an easy recipe for peanut butter cookies that works great. Here is is: SERVINGS 10 to 12 INGREDIENTS ...
