Re: Your favorite thing about having a teenager

I REALLY loved having two teens with such strong opinions on the election. 8) And not afraid to speak about it, AND sounding pretty knowledgable about it. I also love that my kids seem to be learning some of the RIGHT things from us, and will show it when we least expect it. For instance, Haley and ...

Let's pump this place up... fluff... pet peeves (RE): DH)

I think we need some new material in this place! Keep the traffic flowing. 8) Not to really be a *Rag on dh* kind of thread. But, in a lighthearted," wanna just beat him a little, not kill him" kind of way.......What are your biggest pet peeves that your dh does, that drive you NUTS? :roll...

Re: Pajama question

In the closet, on top of my drawer system.

Alex puts his in the laundry every day. Haley puts hers wherever the mood strikes her.

Dh wears boxers so they are tossed in the wash.

Re: Changing Up Thanksgiving -- Ideas?

Tammy the year that my father-in-law passed away, we all went around at Thanksgiving and said something we remembered most about him. It did spark some tears, but it definitely made the rest of the day a lot less tense. We also started the tradition of playing a family game after dinner...which also...

Re: How often do you change your sheets?

Esther, those elevated beds are so easy to change! Haley has one and the height is perfect for changing quickly. She is done in half the time!

Re: How often do you change your sheets?

In theory, every week. In reality, ends up being every other week. I do make the kids change their pillow cases and I change mine weekly, though but that can also fall to the wayside. The worst is Alex's loft bed. He has such a hard time making it that he needs help or gets really frustrated getting...

Re: Drum Set question: Erin, Anna or anyone?

Well, Grandma has made the ultimate decision. She IS going to buy the drum set for him. There is nothing else he really wants, and we do not want or need any more electronics in the house. I guess I feel this way about it. IF it works out... wonderful!! Grandma will be thrilled to be the one ...

Re: Drum Set question: Erin, Anna or anyone?

No info on drum sets... but on the question of how you know they will stick to it??? Watch him when he starts. If he has that gleam in his eyes and will do it in favor of other things... it is his passion and he will stick to it. If not... it's likely to be a passing fad. That said. I would rent fi...

Re: Drum Set question: Erin, Anna or anyone?

Cheryl, Alex doesn't have the *stick with it* much either. We are concerned about him not using them after a while. Dh is more concerned than I am, he really isn't in favor of him getting a drum set because of this. Erin, thanks for the recommendation, I will look into the Pearl brand of drums. How ...

Drum Set question: Erin, Anna or anyone?

Alex has been asking for a drum set for a year or so. Actually, he has wanted to play drums ever since they started instruments in 5th grade, but was not chosen for percussion. :? Well, now that we have more control over what he plays with homeschooling, we are really thinking about getting him a se...

Re: Spin off - homework in middle school?

So far not much at all, 6th or 7th grade. I think it is a combination of teachers who don't assign much (I like that!) and Andy being super efficient so he gets most of it done in school, or quickly at home. I loved his science teacher's explanation on parent night: she said they DO have homework e...

Re: Sleepovers-sleeping bags, bedtime, ...?

Sleepovers here are quite frequent at the 13 year old age. Mine tend to have one every other weekend, at least. Some kids regularly bring sleeping bags, some do not. Unless it is a party where 4 or more are sleeping, they don't need them. I have about 4 comforters and various blankets, pillows and f...

8th grade science question

I would like to get some input on a decision I have made regarding Alex's homeschooling. As you may know, we plan on doing this for a year, and evaluate at the end of the year whether we will continue or not. I would really like to continue, but we will cross that bridge as we come to it. Alex's fav...

Re: Some Homeschool ideas and opinions from all wanted

Sarah,

We do have a Mexican restaurant nearby, I think they are bilingual there. Alex doesn't like Mexican food, but I am sure he could be persuaded to go for a field trip. Good idea!

Re: Some Homeschool ideas and opinions from all wanted

One thing that Alex really would like to learn is a computer language. My BIL recommends C sharp, and sent me the tools to do that. Do any computer geeks here have any feedback to teaching C# to an eager 13 year old?

Re: Some Homeschool ideas and opinions from all wanted

WOW, Linda, thanks so much! Great ideas, and I truly appreciate the thought you put into that! I am going to have to start a list of ideas I want to use by subject. Something I can add to as I find things that I think would interest Alex. I really like the idea of making a model using your house as ...

Some Homeschool ideas and opinions from all wanted

Hello! I am done with the bulk of the curriculum for Alex for homeschooling. I want to put up some ideas here, to get feedback and some other ideas that might go along with it. This, from anyone here, not just HSing families. Spanish- Alex will be learning a program similar to Rosetta Stone. ...
