Re: Blackberry vs. iPhone (possibly vs. Droid)?

With the htc there was a back button that would allow me to get out of something without getting out of everything. Not sure if that makes sense or not. I don't have a smartphone at all, so I've got nothing for that conversation, but Sarah, my kids told me that on the ipad if you are in something a...

Re: Superbowl party food ideas

Sue, I made the jalapeño popper dip for a party just before Christmas. Today I was out with a friend who had been at that party; we are both going to the same Super Bowl party on Sunday and we were talking about what we would be bringing. I mentioned the crockpot recipe with little meatballs and gra...

Re: Do you think Newt is electable?

I have often thought thatbI would seriously consider voting for any candidate, state or federal, who ran only one ad stating truthfully that s/he had donated the rest of the campaign dollars to a good cause! As for Gingrich, I think he has both too much unpalatable history and not quite enough digni...

Re: RSVP website

This is not a sign up kind of thing (though I am tucking that away for future reference, as we might benefit from a program like that for other stuff); it is so a reminder about events can go out, on a scheduled basis, and each time there will be an easy way for people to let the choir director know...

RSVP website

Every month, our children's choir director sends out postcards and an email reminding parents of the date for the kids to sing. She also asks people to let her know if their child won't be coming. Sometimes she hears, sometimes she doesn't. One of the other people on our staff mentioned that her son...

Re: Kids and dinner time

Hollie, a number of us have commented before on other topics that he sounds quite controlling; I'd say this is another example of that, where it really is more about the control than the food per se (though I am sure he wouldn't see it that way). However, for his daughter it is a place where she can...

Re: Kids and dinner time

I gave up controlling snacking around the time Stephen turned 13, because first he and now Andrew graze constantly, while remaining slim and healthy. Their idea of a snack is half a bag of frozen orange chicken before dinner and the other half after, so even the definition of snack has changed subst...

Re: Dessert help - gluten AND dairy free

I don't know about the meringues and humidity; it is not something one has to worry about much when living in So. Cal!

Re: Dessert help - gluten AND dairy free

As long as you have a stand mixer to do the work of beating the egg whites, meringues really are easy...and they look fancy! Check out a recipe and you'll see :D Also, it looks to me like there are readily available (I think Trader Joe's, among other places) gluten free ginger snaps. Make a ginger s...

Re: Dessert help - gluten AND dairy free

Meringues (sp?). Frozen fruit desserts or crustless fruit desserts. I wonder if you can get gluten free graham crackers and make a crust with those? Anything for which you can substitute another variety of "milk" for cow's milk. Baked spiced apples or peaches or pears.

Re: Music/Playlist offshoot

Not really that much. In the car, I have on NPR or a book on CD. My alarm is set to NPR, as is the radio in the kitchen, though I sometimes put on a CD there. I would listen to music when I walk Finn but It doesn't usually occur to me until I am already out the door! One time I usually do is driving...

Re: (Re)Upholstering

Les, just out of curiosity, did you get any estimates for having it done? Probably way more expensive, but every once in a while these sorts of things can be surprisingly reasonable, especially when all the materials are factored in. If it is simply that you want the satisfaction, then you go, girl!

Small pet peeves

Not the big things that really are troublesome, just the little annoyances. This came to mind a few minutes ago as I was perusing the grocery ad and all the "$5 off 10 items" stuff. Really? It is a PITB to try to keep track while I am shopping of which items those are and whether I have bo...

Re: (Re)Upholstering

Brave you! I guess you have nothing to lose and a lot to gain. I would look for videos on the Internet, too, as sometimes it helps to see a step actually being done. You might also want to consider wearing some sort of face mask while you do it, as one can only imagine the dust and allergens built u...

Re: Someone calm me down...

If they make you feel great, then they are a good purchase. Not a deal, but a wise choice. Also, clothes of that quality should last a long time without looking worn or dated. Go get 'em!

Re: How old is too old for T or T?

Like Wanda, the costume is my litmus test. I don't mind younger teens at the door, but they need to look like they put some effort into the costume.
