Re: Spinoff.... older kids and hairstyles/color

We have told him that he can have it longer if he starts showering, conditioning, brushing it more regularly. Until then, I told him in 3- 4 weeks he will need to have it trimmed (his Aunt can do this, and won't cut it short). Thinking about this some more...that's when my boys started taking their...

Re: Spinoff.... older kids and hairstyles/color

Same thing here. The boys could pretty much have any style they wanted, as long as they kept it neat (Dh was more of a stickler on this than me.) Brett was always better about that than Sean, so Sean's hair has always typically been kept pretty short.

Re: Your tweens/teens and cleanliness

With both boys in sports, they were made to take showers every day at an early age. Sean takes his shower in the morning before school. I too have to tell Sean to hurry it up in the morning - he takes after me with the long hot showers. Now with Sean on the weekends I have to keep reminding him to t...

Re: Shoes in the house question

All the carpeting in the house is cream colored - so yes we remove our shoes when we enter the house. I don't tell people to take theirs off, but it's very rare for anyone to not remove their shoes. The kids tell their friends to take off their shoes when they come over. A funny thing- many years ag...

Re: Your favorite thing about having a teenager

They both amaze me. The latest with Sean had to do with the elections. Over the past few years he has been interested in our district's state senator and has written to him with questions and suggestions. He has always rather quickly responded to Sean's inquiries and Sean is really impressed by his ...

Re: Let's pump this place up... fluff... pet peeves (RE): DH)

When he moves stuff. The kids and I are constantly looking for things that we set down. When we ask where he put it we have to hear a speech about leaving "messes" around the house. He is the OCD one in the family

Re: Pajama question

Mine I fold and put at the end of my bed. Sean has been wearing his boxers, so he throws them in the hamper in the morning.

Re: How you know your kid is an adult

I found you all when I just found out I was pregnant with Sean (surprise!). I was flipping out because of my age. It was such a relief to have others who were in or had been in the same situation. Sean will be 13 yo on Thursday, so it's been almost 14 years. WOW! And Brett will be 19yo in December ...

Re: How often do you change your sheets?

Tammy wrote:I voted "once a week," but to be honest, sometimes it's more often.

This is my SIL...2x each week...which is why she was so mortified when her son went a whole year away at college without washing his sheets once. ROFL.

Re: How often do you change your sheets?

Reminds me of my nephew. He was sent to college with two new sets of sheets. When my SIL picked him up at the end of the school year, the one set was still in the package. He said he "forgot" about them and he "forgot" to wash his sheets. She was mortified - LOL. Brett's been gon...

Re: Drum Set question: Erin, Anna or anyone?

I was going to post the same thing as Sue. LOL. Sean has been in percussion for four years. He still uses the kit at home, and uses all of the percussion instruments in school. If he's actually going to take lessons somewhere they should have the drums for him to use there, and he can practice at ho...

Re: Spin off - homework in middle school?

Sean in 8th has 30 minutes of sports study hall every day after school. It is the time between the end of school and when he has to go to the high school for volleyball. He typically has about 1/2 hour more in the evening to finish up. Unless there is a project due or extra study time for a test, ab...

Re: School lunches

Same here - they are required to take at least two sides. Lunches are $2.45. There is a made to order deli bar and supreme salad bar every day. They also offer PB&J and yogurt & pretzel every day. The "sides" are fresh fruit, veggies, and assorted milk. Their entrees for this month...
