Re: Paying someone to pick up and drop off your kids

I've done that before and have paid 10 dollars an hour, but that's using my car. I think I would also pay for gas, so maybe 15 for an hour of driving.

Re: Airline ticket question: when to book

Cathie, I didn't get different results with a clear cache. I even used the library computer with the same results. It does make a difference that I have to stay with United. Anyhow, Tuesday I got a higher fare than Monday or Thursday...which goes against the theory of best time to book being Tues af...

Airline ticket question: when to book

A few weeks back we had decided on A flight for our trip to LA In MID-august. My oldest son had to put a request in to his job and then found out a different week was better. By that time, flights had gone up 75-100per ticket! Doing some research I found that Tuesdays are usually the cheapest, so we...

Re: What have you done for your son's 16th birthday?

By the time mine were teens we stopped having big birthday parties in lieu of a trip/outing with friends. They choose two friends: Haley spent the night at a hotel with dinner and salon nails, while Alex took 3 friends to Six Flags on a day trip but didn't spend the night. We will likely do somethin...

Re: SAHM, WOHM, WAHM?

I'm a WAHM but also consider myself a SAHM. Even now that the kids are older, being home all the time is wonderful. I love being home when my dd gets home from school and tells me about her day over a snack.

Re: More College Questions (honor societies)

Hollie, this is a great honor! I do know that Jory was invited to join, but we declined. We felt his GPA and other actual clubs and memberships would be more than enough to put on a resume. You can also put down that you were chosen for membership of the Golden Key Honor Society' which would indicat...

Re: What do you think about R movies in middle school?

My son watched Glory last year as part of Homeschooling. Honestly, I think I would feel the same way you do about losing such valuable time in public school.

Re: TV spinoff -- how many sq. ft. per person?

We have 2,400 sq feet, so that's 600 per person. I find it just enough, but dislike the layout.

Re: How many TV's and Where?

No tvs in our bedrooms either.

We have 3. One in the living room, one in the sun room, and one in the basement. All have cable and Netflix.

Re: Keratosis Pilaris

Tina, I did read that about twins. Interesting, but Alex does not have it. I wonder too about the chlorine, and if it has given her a flare-up.

Re: Keratosis Pilaris

Thanks, Betsy and Esther! Hers is mainly on her upper arms, chest and shoulders on to her back. It does appear to look like a red, bumpy rash, and she is a bit self-conscious of it. It is rough and grainy to the touch. We plan on keeping her lubed up with the ointment prescribed, and it should help....

Keratosis Pilaris

My daughter was just diagnosed with this skin condition. I am a bit frustrated to learn there isn't much we can do for it. Anyone affected by this, either yourself or someone you know? Is there any chance it could be helped with a change of diet? We suspect food allergies for other reasons, possibly...

Re: Making lunch for kids

Well, since I am making lunch during the week for the daycare kids, I usually do for my kids, too. Usually, they can only eat part of the lunch I make; ds is gluten intolerant and dd is vegeterian. They usually have to maje something of their own. That said, dd will very independently make everythin...

Re: Good series for 10 y.o. boy?

My dd is stuck on the Percy Jacson series too! She is counting the days until the next one comes out.

I know the books they really liked at that age were the Hatchet Series.

I think it is a good age to try Harry Potter, too.

THe others have suggested some others we have liked as well.

Spinoff.... older kids and hairstyles/color

I guess my thread on hygiene has me leading to their hairstyles. How much of a say do you have in how your kids style their hair? How long they keep it, for instance. For girls (and at times, I guess for boys) do you allow them to have it highlighted, colored, etc? I am asking this because Alex has ...

Re: Let's pump this place up... fluff... pet peeves (RE): DH)

When he moves stuff. The kids and I are constantly looking for things that we set down. When we ask where he put it we have to hear a speech about leaving "messes" around the house. He is the OCD one in the family  Tina, This is me! I am the one who constantly gathers things ...

Your tweens/teens and cleanliness

When kids get older, they take on some responsibilities that we used to have to monitor on a daily basis. Or, at least is SHOULD be that way, LOL. How involved are you in your kids hygiene? I am sure there are some who need no involvement... especially those girls who will spend all sorts of time do...

Re: Pajama question

Dirty clothes. Dh just wears boxers, so his is obvious :) The older girls throw theirs in the dirty clothes too. Ilana wears her clothes from the day most of the time, even jeans  I have no clue why she started or how to stop it. Sarah, this is Alex. He doesn't wear jeans, but he does like to...

Re: Shoes in the house question

Cathie, almost the same policy as you, including how I deal with guests. I only insists the younger guests and daycare kids take their shoes off in the house. Most people see the shoes by the door, and already do that. If I am having a get-together I will offer that they can leave shoes on if they w...
