Re: Holiday party dilemma advice needed

That's a tough one. Did you have a discussion about the date change and what would work for you, or did she just find out you couldn't make the first date and change it to the new one? If the latter, I'd say you have no obligation. But if you had a conversation about it, I think you do need to be th...

Re: Anyone seen any good movies?

I was going to suggest The Martian also; 5 of us with vastly different tastes saw it together and all really enjoyed it.

Re: Hobbies

I still enjoy my roses, though they don't take a lot of time; more of my time has been spent on the "hobby" of killing off our front lawn so that we can re-do it with California natives. Excited about that! I have been walking with a couple of different people, new friends, each week, whic...

Re: Roll Call?

Rhonda, I have to laugh about the piercings and tattoos. Andrew has his ears pierced and talks about tattoos, and Stephen is the one who tells him in no uncertain terms that it's a bad idea :P Stephen's point is that at 17 he had no idea what he wanted to do and now there are depts that wouldn't hir...

Re: Roll Call?

I still check in! My boys are now 17 and 20. Stephen is in a year long fire academy program and happy as a clam; he also works part time and takes some additional community college courses. His hope is to become a paramedic, though if he was offered a firefighter job coming out of the academy next J...

Re: Grey hair advice needed

So many natural ladies! I'm not sure I have the guts to go grey... at least until I'm older. I'm not sure it takes guts...for me, it's somewhere between laziness and penny-pinching :P The only time I really think about it is when someone brings up the topic or very occasionally when I look at a pic...

Re: Grey hair advice needed

I haven't ever colored my hair, which is increasingly grey. For me, it is a level of cost and maintenance that I am not willing to undertake. I look forward to the day when I have the gorgeous white hair my granddad had and my mom now has. In the meantime, I take encouragement from the parish member...

Re: Favorite PnM memories?

One of my co-workers recently saw a photo of me with some of my imaginary friends--which is how they also refer to them--and commented, "Wow! They look so real!" :D

Re: Paying someone to pick up and drop off your kids

Sometimes what seems reasonable to pay someone is not just based on the going rate, but how much it is worth to us! I hope this arrangement simplifies your life :-)

Re: Airline ticket question: when to book

Just read a NY Times article on this topic; apparently Tuesday is no longer the best day to book! As you found, Thursdays are often better.

Re: Graduation parties

We had some of Stephen's friends and some adults with whom he's friends over for a very casual BBQ. In the end, maybe 30 people. It was about a week after graduation; didn't work to do it the weekend of graduation. By the end of the evening, the kids were all sitting around playing Apples to Apples!...

Re: Ranger's apprentice books

Could have been me, because they were a huge hit with both my boys and I have suggested them to so many people. I like them too! Glad they have piqued his interest.

Re: Dairy Free anyone?

I'm not dairy free, but I was while nursing Andrew a long time ago. I am a big cereal eater and found that refrigerated rice milk (I liked the Trader Joe's brand) made a good substitute for nonfat milk. Soy milk was okay, but i dont really like the texture; to me it feels slick (althou the light cho...

Re: More College Questions (honor societies)

I happened to be on the Seton Hall website today and noticed that they offer additional scholarships to transfer students who qualified for Phi Theta Kappa. So that one at least must have some practical value!

Re: Do you love your vacuum?

Yes! I have a Miele canister, and every single time I use it I think about how much I love it...would be even better if I used it more often  We have had it maybe 6 years and it still works perfectly; outstanding suction, lightweight, maneuverable, and pretty quietl At the time, I choked on th...

Re: Do you still have your wedding dress?

Like many of you, mine is in a sealed box, as it has been since I had it cleaned after our wedding. No clue what I want to do with it, but I don't want to get rid of it.l.though I sometimes look at that closet space longingly. If I knew it could go to a bride in need, I would probably be happy with ...

Re: How many TV's and Where?

We have lots of ways to recycle old TVs, but that proliferation of options has really been in the last two years or so. Twice a year you can out them out for the trash collection large item pick up, or you can call them to schedule it (I think we get two of those a year). Schools and church groups h...
